From Dusk Till Dawn, TMNT, Moon Knight & Gwenpool? No way!

From Dusk Till Dawn

If you aren’t watching this Vampire TV show then you are missing out. I would put it right up there with the Strain for most underrated Vampire TV show currently available. I can’t think of the last time I bought or recommended a Big Entertainment comic but this Deluxe Edition is tough to find.

Detective Rafael Scarfe (who?)

Marvel Premiere 23

Supporting characters who do not possess powers don’t usually set the market on fire but if completing collections of adapted live characters is your game then you are gonna need this one: first Detective Rafael Scarfe ( Luke Cage, Netflix )

If I am collecting the works of a particular artists I usually want everything I can find. Collector’s can thumb their collective noses at books like this all they want. The reality is that issue 54 is Platt’s first work on Moon Knight and it’s a close up for the cover to the now famous issue 55. It’s also a sketch version which should only add to its desirability for Platt fans.

IDW's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 50, Cover Art by Kenneth Rocafort (Limited Edition of just 500)

TMNT #50 - Rocafort Variant

TMNT #50 – Rocafort Variant

This one has a pretty bad ass cover and a limited run which should make it appealing to TMNT fans. The book I am recommending though is issue 15 of the original series ( first Metal Head )

ONE NOT TO BUY:

Deadpool's Secret Secret Wars 2 Variant ( First Gwenpool )

I actually liked the Spider-Verse arc and I am in no way a fan of Slott’s writing. Out of Earth 65 came Spider-Gwen and even though she was hardly the best character to debut ( see The Anarchic Spider-Man or Supaidaman/Leopardon ), I can still understand why she has gained such popularity. A snazzy debut cover, the fact that it’s a female character and a cool costume remind me a lot of Harley Quinn. That my friends is a recipe for success. There wasn’t any real hype around her intro either which also helps. So why don’t I like Gwenpool? First of all the name doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. Why not Gwenapool? As much as I have enjoyed the Deadpool Secret Wars series I just can’t get behind this version of Gwen. When she gets a story in the upcoming Howard the Duck relaunch maybe I’ll change my mind. Who knows, maybe I should reserve judgment until we actually get to read a story in which she stars but this book seems more like Marvel going to the well once too often. If you have it I say sell now but I’m not buyin' at any price.
