Supergirl Keys

Speculation for the upcoming Supergirl show might not have as much punch as Daredevil or The Flash but it’s light tone might be a draw for younger fans. Here are some Supergirl keys for the collection and yes I left out Vartox on purpose (Iñigo's note: No worries, Vartox fans, we have you covered!)

Before I get into the actual Supergirl's keys, there's something to get out of the way: what's commonly known as the Supergirl prototype. Before Supergirl made her first appearance, there was a superpowered woman dressed with a similar costume in Superman #123 (her first and only appearance). This character, however, is not Supergirl, but it's easy to see why collectors might be interested in this one too.

Superman #123

First appearance: Action Comics 252

Alura Zor-El & Zor El ( Kara’s father )

Kara’s aunt showing up might be the only thing I really liked about the Supergirl Pilot. Personally I was excited to see Hank Henshaw prior to watching the episode but he failed to impress.

ACTION COMICS #252

Action Comics 252

Action 252 is a bit pricey but if you are betting on this series try these:

Silver Age Classics Action 252 Reprint

SIlver Age Classics: Action Comics 252

Supergirl 75

At one time this issue was a hard to find gem. Today it’s simply undervalued much like issues 76-80 all with small print runs. This Peter David classic has a lot going for it. For starters it reintroduces Kara Zor-El which was a big deal when it happened. It also has a pretty sick Rob Haynes Cover and is a cover swipe of Action 252.

First Post Crisis Appearance of Alura Zor-El: Supergirl 8

Action Comics 256 ( First Dick Wilson/Richard Malverne )

As far as the financial windfall one might receive from investing in supporting characters I can’t guarantee anything. Richard is the definition of supporting character but lucky for him he first appears in this issue of Action and with a classic cover like that who wouldn’t want it?
