Why will you love Boom! Studios, if you don’t already? For one, they make their back issues available for sale through their website! Two… exclusives! Let’s take a quick look at Boom’s history, some keys, limited exclusives and the properties that have been optioned for film to date.
So, just where did Boom! Studios come from? Turns out, it really is a small comic-world. The co-founders of Boom worked at Malibu Sun before establishing Boom! Studios in 2005, publishing Zombie Tales that year as their first title. In 2013, Boom acquired Archaia Studios Press. Later that year, an exclusive first-look deal with 20th Century Fox was signed, giving Fox the opportunity to produce films based on Boom’s comic-owned properties.
Boom Comics to keep an eye out for
San Diego Comic-Con 2011 Exclusive Ducktales #1 8-Bit Variant Cover
A cover featuring a blast from the original Nintendo past mixed with an extremely limited supply has 1980’s fans of the cartoon and comic collectors alike in bidding wars to obtain a copy. Too bad there aren’t more available. But then again, if there were, this probably wouldn’t be on the list! If you run into it cheap, buy it!
Darkwing Duck #1 SDCC 2010
The Duck Knight Returns! Limited to only 500 copies, we see a much more serious expression than compared to the less expensive, 2nd printing variant, shown to the right.
Over The Garden Wall #1 Special
Over The Garden Wall #1 Special was a sleeper and hit the $30-$40 peak rather quickly when it came out earlier this year. It has since cooled some, but while it is still in demand, the variant, shown above on the left, is the one you’ll have trouble finding.
Adventure Time #1 2012 First Printing
Adventure Time #1 2012 First Printing. Consider it a success to find this comic in the $30 range. There are a few variants to the number one issue that sell well. Be wary of the FCBD edition of this issue, shown above to the right, which sells for much less. Next to nothing, in fact. A couple differences in the upper left and lower right corners.
Lumberjanes and Bee and Puppycat #1 first printing cover A’s are still selling in the low $20 range.
So, what is going on in film-land with Boom! Studios?

2013 – Day Men and Unthinkable were optioned.
2012 – Insurrection and Jeremiah Harm
2011 – Talent
2008 – North Wind
2006 – Tag
The Killer and Starkweather were optioned prior to the purchase of Archaia Studios. They were both optioned in 2007.
If any of these movies or tv shows happen, look for these comics to take off.
