1 Star Wars #4 (2015) Boba Fett Variant (5k Print Run)

The books haven't even shipped yet and raw copies are going for $65 on eBay. I don't know how either, since they are all pre-sells but that's another story. Wouldn't be surprised if it jumps  close to $85 by next week. My gut says this will stabilize at $50 and will be that price for the foreseeable future. Star Wars trailer yesterday did nothing but help as well.

2 Batman #38 (2014) DC Combo Pack Polybag Variant

Batman-38-Combo-Cover WRITER: Scott Snyder
ARTIST: Greg Capullo
After everyone picked the internet clean for #35, they began to try and make sets. Crazy thing is people noticed #37, #38, and #39 were a lot harder to find. DC cuts print numbers of all combos each month from when they announced they were doing away with them. #40 Combo is going to be insane, and will be a $100 book before it comes out I'm afraid.

3 Justice League Vol 2 #1 (2013) 2nd Print DC Combo Pack Polybag Variant

WRITER: Geoff Johns
Nobody knows for sure, but this is potentially the rarest of all the combo variants. I have heard 500, 800, and even 350 as the print run. Multiple copies sold last week for $75 on the eBay. The 3rd print isn't easy to find either, but is way more easy to find based on simple searches. Not to beat a dead horse, but this cover is bad ass! Jim Lee draws Batman better than anyone outside of Capullo.

Preacher #1 (1995)

WRITER: Garth Ennis
ARTIST: Steve Dillon
With the news this week that Dominic Cooper has agreed to play Jesse, the cast is now set. It didn't take long for Preacher #1 to start being sold again almost instantly. VF copies are $225 books right now and justifiably so. I think this series is going to be a giant success and anyone who stocks up on Preacher is going to do very well in the aftermarket. If you don't buy now, you will hate yourself in 9 months. Trust me.

6 Walking Dead #100 (2012) 3rd Print

WRITER: Robert Kirkman
ARTIST: Charlie Adlard

People love to hate Negan and love him just the same. He is the most polarizing villain in WD history. Speculation is he will appear sometime next season the TV show (Please let it be Henry Rollins). Everyone knows about WD #100 and what happens. 1st prints are selling for for $12, 2nd prints are selling for $25 and 3rd prints in the $33 area. The Lucille variant is another animal all together. The theme of these top 10's recently has been low print runs, and the 3rd print is very, very low print run.

7 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Vol 5 #44 (2015) Cover C Retailer Incentive Variant Cover (1:10)

WRITER: Tom Waltz
ARTIST: Cory Smith
This might be the last week this appears on the Top 10. It had a good run regardless. The FCBD issue comes out in a few weeks, and the infamous panel seems to show Donatello is alive. This book will always collectible and hold value due to the fact he was “killed” in this issue. Still selling for $85 raw though.

8 Suicide Squad Vol 4 #1 (2011)

WRITER: Adam Glass
ARTIST: Federico Dallocchio
Huge week this week when it came to Suicide Squad news. There was a group picture posted by director David Ayer that showed the cast reading or something actors do. Jaret Leto did a Killing Joke homage photo, and a snapchat with him as the Joker. This book is still undervalued, if Harley is going to be the lead in the movie as it looks, then this is her first appearance as a SS member, and the team in the movie most resembles this one as well. Not a cheap book to begin with because of Harley, but it has a lot more room for growth.

9 Batman #35 (2014) DC Combo Pack Variant

WRITER: Scott Synder
ARTIST: Greg Capullo
The book that started it all is still selling for $40 online and sold out everywhere else. This and the TMNT #44 book are still hot books, but people have either bought the ones they wanted or trying to sell the excess and it causes stagnation in value. This is the least rare of the combo variants, but also the one that started this whole fiasco.

10 Amazing Spider-Man #678 (2012) 1:50 Mary Jane Venom Variant

WRITER: Dan Slott
ARTIST: Humberto Ramos
The hottest variant in the modern game by a wide margin. Low 9's are now getting $1,200 and higher. This book isn't ultra rare contrary to what people think. Even during the low print run days Spider-Man was a huge sellers and stores still ordered it so lots of stores ordered 50 copies. The Del Otto #667 Variant is the one you never see and is actually “rare” I still want one of these though. I might need to message Mercenaut again and see if he needs anything.

Amazing Fantasy Vol 2 #15 (2006)

WRITER: Greg Pak
ARTIST: Takeshi Miyazawa
So the woman in the Avengers trailers in the room and hammer scene is Margaret Cho. She is a scientist, but she is also the mother of Amadeus Cho. 7th smartest person in the Marvel Universe (I feel stupid for even knowing that). I hear rumors Amadeus is going to be a BIG player in the Infinity Wars down the road. This is his first appearance.

Deathstroke Vol 1 #58 (1996)

WRITER: Marv Wolfman
ARTIST: Tom Grindberg
Bet you haven't even seen this book before have you? Bet you had no clue it is impossible to find as well. Joker/Deathstroke story and cover mash-up. Shout-out to A.Santos for filling me in this and the other Deathstroke books.

Glad I already got a 9.8 Preacher. That Deathstroke 58 is hard to find, at least for me in this area. T.Vaeth brought it to my attention. Can’t go wrong with issue 60 either.

Need to pick up a SS 1 for my Harley PC.

    Great list.

  • jober2290

are any of the other combo packs worth picking up?? or are we just looking at endgame? there’s plenty of batman/superman, justice league, superman etc floating on ebay for cover!

  • Avatar

Nice pics on the list. At one point in time, all extra printings of a book were looked down upon. Supply equals demand with many of the main titles now. Makes me wonder how long this will last. As always, thanks for the top 10 again.

Any speculation or ideas of the newsstand versions of the Batman comics from issue #35 – #40? They seem to be printed in smaller numbers than the direct editions, have a $4.99 cover price and are only on the market for about a month until the next issue is released. When the next issue is released they are removed from the market and have their covers sent back to DC for credit.

Any thoughts on the Valiant comics as with the Sony news of the 5 picture deal…Bloodshot, Harbinger, Harbinger Wars…

  • Santos

didnt know there was a newstand vs non newstand N52 issues, they all have newstand logo, dont they?

    • Brandon Gates

the newsstands have a different barcode and some other things are different about them too. Like as mentioned above they are all one dollar more so DC books that are usually 2.99 are 3.99 and 3.99 books are 4.99 etc, but i think this is fairly new. Also I’ve noticed with wrap around covers like Superman 38, the newsstand version has an ad on the back.
