Action Comics 1

This week I wanted to go with a DC book and I thought that book would be Detective Comics 27. I’m a huge Batman fan and would have loved to find some homage covers to a book I’d be lucky to ever see in person let alone own. Unfortunately, as the deadline crept in, I realized I needed a bit more time to look some more. So I went with the next best thing … Action Comics 1!!!

Action Comics #1

Action Comics #1

The guy running away with his hands on his head cracks me up every time. I also like how Superman’s costume wasn’t completely evolved yet.

Action Comics #685

Action Comics #685

Superman is dead…someone has to pick up cars and throw them. Why not Supergirl??

Amazing Spider-Man #306

Amazing Spider-Man #306

Mr. McFarlane is at it again with his homage covers. This isn’t even the only homage to Action 1 that guy did…

Spawn #228

Spawn #228

Maybe Todd just doesn’t feel like coming up with covers of his own? This one is pretty cool though.

Batman and Robin #39

Batman and Robin #39

This book came out a couple of weeks ago and I honestly contemplated getting it…but I have a bit of a spending problem so I’ll wait. Still pretty cool to see Robin picking up the Bat-Mobile like that.

Fantastic Four #291

Fantastic Four #291

While this is definitely an homage to Action Comics 1, I wouldn’t get it just because the image is reversed. Something about that bugs me.

Kevin Keller #5

Kevin Keller #5

The man Archie took a bullet for does his best Man of Steel impression. Archie is traumatized!

Popeye #1

Popeye #1

Is that all you need to do to lift up a car? Eat some spinach?

Solar Man of the Atom #1

Solar Man of the Atom #1

Another pretty good homage to Action 1. Too bad this isn’t a Valiant book…those books are going to be worth tons with the new movie deal just announced!

Superman #19 (Mad Variant Cover)

Superman #19 (Mad Variant Cover)

Is Superman saving Alfred E Neuman? Or is he throwing a car at him? You be the judge.

Superman #136

Superman #136

The Superman of the future is throwing a futuristic hover car and the alien with the 3 eyes Hates it!

Superman #201

Superman #201

Mr. Majestic is saving Superboy…who the heck is Mr. Majestic???

Superman #124

Superman #124

I didn’t read a lot of Superman growing up…who is this guy?

Wacky Squirrel Comics #4

Wacky Squirrel Comics #4

This squirrel isn’t strong enough to throw the car, just put it on a jack so it looks like he’s throwing it. The Bulldog does not approve!

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 #32

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer: Season 8 #32

Buffy joins the car-destroying fun! Let's face it, if you could do it, you would do it too!

Fallen Angel #15

Fallen Angel #15

I wouldn't have expected a tribute cover from Fallen Angel, but there you go …

Fuzzy Bunnies From Hell #1

Fuzzy Bunnies From Hell #1

I am guessing the title of this comic is to be taken as literally as possible … Nice Nauck cover, though!

Prime #1 Holographic Cover (Original Art)

Prime #1 Holographic Cover (Original Art)

Normally, I would include the final cover, but it's a mess and you wouldn't be able to see anything.

Zoom Suit #3

Zoom Suit #3

If there's one detail you should retain from this cover is that even the signature of the artist was toxic.

Multiversity #1

Multiversity #1

One of my favorites … Best ‘scared guy in the corner' by far!!!

Uber #3

Uber #3

Nothing says ‘I just opened up a can of whup-ass!' like a good ol' AC1 tribute cover!

Tales of the Bizarro World TPB

Tales of the Bizarro World TPB

Horrible Bizarro cover by Xaime Hernandez. Bizarro-Lois really afraid. I hate this cover very much!!!

Ugly Doll Comics FCBD

Please, tell me this is the last one …

Doodle Jump #1

Why even bother?

Finally, I wanted to thank possibly my only loyal reader, Agustin Santos for pointing out a possible Amazing Spider-Man 300 cover swipe: Incredible Hulk #344! Thanks for the assist Agustin!

The cover of Incredible Hulk #344 has its similarities to ASM300, but they must have been drawn at around the same time, so I would say that Todd really liked the composition for this one (the characters breaking out of a circle, which at the same time makes your eyes focus on them) and then re-used it for his ASM300 cover. What do you guys think? I am sure there's a yes/no answer to this so any help appreciated.

Incredible Hulk #344

There is also going to be a Phantom Variant for Deadpool 45 that will pay homage to ASM300. Keep an eye out for it and order early if you want it … I have a feeling its going to go fast!

Until next week … thanks to everyone for reading and posting feeback!
