Head Trip: Deadpool Movie Speculation
Deadpool Movie Speculation
A quick fact some of you may not know. Wade Wilson, AKA Deadpool, was originally created as a rip off character by Rob Liefeld of DC’s Slade Wilson, AKA Deathstroke. Marvel eventually separated the two by changing Deadpool’s appearance, rhetoric, and mannerisms.
With that being said, Deadpool has blossomed into the most popular character in the Marvel Universe. With a plethora of trade paper backs out there to choose from, the Deadpool themed stories seemingly never end. For some, that is a beautiful thing.
Oh yea, I almost forgot, there is a Deadpool movie coming out with a release date of February 12th, 2016. That’s less than a year away ladies and gents. Do you have your Deadpool movie books? If you don’t soon, you will be left with disappointment after your hunt as there are a ton of Deadpool fans.
Most of the books in the first section can be found for cover or less. Also, if the Deadpool movie is a smash hit (I’m 99.8% sure it will be), there will be a sequel and possibly more movies. Some of these books are looking farther down the road as specs for Deadpool 2 and/or Deadpool 3. Fox has the rights to Deadpool (Insert self-imposed head slap from Avi Arad) and has stated that Deadpool will be focused in the X-Men cinematic universe, which means we will most likely see Wolverine, and possibly more X-Men characters.
Since the Deadpool movie will be set in the X-Men cinematic universe, the X-Men Origins: Deadpool One-Shot should be the origin issue to grab.Deadpool: Merc with a Mouth #7 features the 1st appearance of Lady Deadpool, who is one of the members of the Deadpool Corps. Also look for the 2nd print of this book, which features a sweet variant cover.
Deadpool Vol 3 #1000 is the 1st Appearance of Headpool (another Deadpool Corps member) and also has a sweet noir cover. I haven’t read any Prelude to Deadpool Corps, but according to multiple sources, Prelude to Deadpool Corps #3 is the 1st Appearance of Dogpool (yet again another Deadpool Corps member!)
Marvel Two-in-One Annual #7 is the first appearance of the Champion, who was, you guessed it, an original member of Deadpool Corps. This book features a cool boxing cover as well. Prelude to Deadpool Corps #2 is the supposed 1st Appearance of Kidpool. I promise, this is the last member of the original Deadpool Corps.
Here’s where it gets a little weird. Dogpool and Kidpool both appear in Prelude to Deadpool Corps #1, on the cover. So is this the 1st appearance of Dogpool and Kidpool? Deadpool Vol 2 #11 features a sweet Amazing Fantasy #15 cover swipe. Not related to the movie, but a good book to have!
To me, these two books are still way under the radar. Deadpool Vol 1 #1 and Deadpool: The Circle Chase #1 both pre-date Deadpool #1 from his first ongoing series. Each mini-series has four books and all of them are worth picking up. Deadpool: The Circle Chase #1 is also the 1st appearance of Weasel, who is a friend, sidekick, information broker and arms dealer for Deadpool and has a high chance to appear on screen.
Agent X #1 features the 1st Appearance of Agent X who has a unique story as well. Some believe he is Deadpool, Deadpool believes he’s a version of himself on another Earth. You decide! New Mutants #99 is the 1st Appearance of Shatterstar and Feral, who are two of the original members of X-Force, which is rumored to be in the Deadpool movie.
New Mutants #100 has the 1st Appearance of the X-Force team and X-Force: Megazine collects New Mutants 98-100.
The second print of New Mutants #87 is the 1st Appearance of Cable and has a gold variant cover and is worth picking up if you can find it cheap. Deadpool Vol 2 #65 contains the 1st Appearance of Nijo Minamiyori, who later becomes Agent X and also has the 1st Appearance of Black Swan (the male version), who is one of Deadpool’s foes. This book also has a sweet Alvin Lee cover.
Deadpool Vol 2 1998 Annual and Deadpool -1 both feature Deadpool origin stories. They are worth grabbing cheap, even if they don’t use these stories for an origin on the screen.
Next are some of the keys already known surrounding the Deadpool movie. Some of you may have already grabbed multiple copies of these books and if you haven’t, you better grab them before they disappear …
Next, we have some reading material! You know I couldn’t have an article without some recommended reading! Here are 3 TPBs worth picking up if you find them cheap (or at the library!).
BONUS! Two Deadpool variants that have long term value.
And finally, like you thought I would forget the big two. If you have New Mutants #98 (1st Deadpool) and are missing New Teen Titans #2 (1st Deathstroke), your Deadpool collection sucks.
There would not be a Deadpool if not for Deathstroke. This fact got a wink in the delightful Superman / Batman Annual #1, where Joe Kelly (writer of arguably the best Deadpool stories out there) introduces the Earth-3 version of Deathstroke and let's just say it sounds and acts exactly like Deadpool would, were he allowed to appear in a DC comic. Which, of course, he isn't, but if he were … A fun read in any case!
Now go eat some Deadpoo while I try and be a good Dadpool!
