Amazing Spider-Man 300

Crazy for cover swipes logo

One of the main things that appeals to me as a collector is when there are multiple items in one collection that are similar in nature with slight differences. I was a huge collector of carded GI Joes a few years ago. What I loved about the carded figures was the image of the Joe for each figure. They all had the same background style, with the only difference being the actual Joe pictured. I found it aesthetically pleasing to my collecting “gene” to see all the Joes I had collected together with just slight differences to the images on the packaging.

When I got back into collecting comics I found that cover swipes or homages appealed in the same way to me. How cool is it to see a classic cover that is known to most collectors redone with more modern characters? With that in mind, coupled with the release of the Spider-Gwen 1 Phantom variant and the upcoming Silk 2 Phantom variant, both swipes of Amazing Spider-Man 300, I thought I would highlight some of the cooler cover swipes I have seen since I started collecting again this year.

The creator of the original went right back to the well just one issue later with this cover.

For the final issue in Volume 1, artist Humberto Ramos paid tribute to ASM 300 with this 2nd print variant.

McFarlane used the cover design again, this time with his new baby.

Venom v2 #2

Tony Moore did his own rendition of ASM 300 with the second issue of Venom. The second printing of this was the same just in red.

Marc Spector: Moon Knight #57

Stephen Platt copied the cover for when Spidey teamed up with Moon Knight. This book has been on fire recently thanks to our community and Trey in particular who brought it to our attention.

Dead-Pooh #3

This is Iñigo’s favorite … he told me so.

Spider-Gwen #1 Phantom Variant

Spider-Gwen #1 Phantom Variant

The Phantom Variant for Spider-Gwen 1 pays a great tribute to the original … To me this cover is much more appealing than the Hughes one and if you ordered on time, MUCH cheaper!

Silk #2 Phantom Variant

I was even happier that I ordered the Phantom Variant for Spider-Gwen 1 when I saw they would be releasing this one as well. Not as nice as the Spider-Gwen in my opinion, but still pretty.

Once Iñigo was finished raving about the Deadpooh cover (and, boy, that took a while) he mentioned another cover swipe for 300 I had never seen.
