The Wednesday One: 2/18/15
One book to rule the week
If you could only choose one comic book to buy from all the new comics being released this Wednesday, what would it be?
We ask the staff here at ComicBookInvest.Com the same question and are sometimes surprised by their answers. Made up of a wide range of comic book speculators, enthusiasts, and businessmen, the staff prides itself on being able to identify the worthy from the unworthy each Wednesday.
Here's what they had to say this week:
|Mark C: My pick this week is Lady Mechanika #4 Valentine's Edition. It's been three years or so since issue #3. Steampunk/cosplay fans of this series go nuts for each issue. Super hot on the back issue market. Joe Benitez is self-publishing, so probably a very small print run (even with multiple covers). Even the reg covers are worth the risk in my opinion.
||Anthony L: Seems like a week of weak comics. I am gonna have to say Silk #1. I think she has more of a chance of sticking around than Spider-Gwen and would be way more popular had they both not showed up so close together. I still say this character is here to stay and, depending on what Marvel does with Gwen, could definitely be one of the bigger sleeper comics and 1st solo book app. A lot of people will be scrambling for her stuff the minute there is a hint that Marvel is going to cool off on Gwen.
Shaun L: What's this cooling off Gwen rumor?
Anthony L: No rumor that I know of. Just my thoughts. I think Silk is a better long term character.
Simon P: I'd say Silk #1 too. I liked her character so far.
|Yanni G: Silk 1 Lee Variant looks like the heater. (Runners up: Wonder Woman 39 Sketch Variant, Lady Mechanika #4 Variant. For fun: Teen Titans #7 Harley Variant)
||Brian S: Secret Identities #1 – Image, Superhero book, 1st issue.
|Mark H: Multiversity Mastermen. Loving everything Grant Morrison's doing with this. A story where Superman is brought up in a world where Nazis won world war 2 … Yes, please! (Followed closely by Batman & Robin #39. I'm really intrigued as to what's going to happen with Damien now that he shares the powers of basically Superman.)
Mark C: Did they redesign the Freedom Fighters in that book? The synopsis mentioned them, but I didn't see Uncle Sam anywhere. 🙁
Mark H: The Uncle Sam is in it, believe he's on the cover!
Mark C: Dang, I should have looked there! It's always in the last place you look! (I must have been looking at a variant cover image).
Mark C: Just saw that Mastermen also features the first ever (to my knowledge) comic book panel of Adolf Hitler sitting on the toilet reading a Superman comic (drawn by Jim Lee). That has to be noteworthy at least, if not collectible. :p
|Keith S: If I could find it, I would buy the Wonder Woman #39 1:100 variant. Those variants are exploding! It's sold out online, and no one has even seen the cover. David Finch's run on WW is going to go down as one of the best cover runs, similar to Hughes on Catwoman, Campbell on Spider-man, and Artgerm on Batgirl.
That's it for this week. What would you buy? There can be only one!
